About You’re Write
You’re Write was created to give young people a space to explore storytelling through hip-hop, writing and creative expression.
Hip-hop has always been a powerful way for people to share their experiences, speak their truth and connect with others. You’re Write builds on that tradition by creating a relaxed and welcoming environment where young people can experiment with lyric writing, develop their ideas and grow in confidence.
The workshops encourage participants to find their voice, support one another creatively and develop skills that extend beyond music — including confidence, communication and self-expression.
Why This Program Exists
Many young people have powerful stories to tell but don’t always have access to creative spaces where they feel comfortable sharing them.
You’re Write exists to create that space — one where creativity is welcomed, individuality is respected and everyone has the opportunity to express themselves through writing and music.
Through hip-hop and storytelling, the program aims to help young people build confidence in their ideas, connect with others and realise that their experiences and perspectives matter.
Program Support
You’re Write Workshops at Youth Arts & Recreation Centre is proudly funded by the Tasmanian Government through Arts Tasmania.
The workshops take place at the Youth Arts & Recreation Centre (YARC) in Hobart — a dedicated creative space that supports young people to explore arts, culture and community.
This support helps ensure the YARC workshops remains free and accessible for young people who want to explore hip-hop, writing and creative expression.
About the facilitators
Kiz is a palawa hip-hop artist from Nipaluna (Hobart), Tasmania.
Through his music and community work, he has spent years creating opportunities for young people across the state. As the founder of Seventhree, he has built events, workshops and platforms that support emerging artists and amplify youth voices.
Kiz believes hip-hop is more than music — it’s a powerful form of storytelling that helps young people express themselves, build confidence, and find their place within their community.
Each workshop also features guest artists, bringing their own sounds, styles and lived experience. They share knowledge, offer guidance, and help create a space where creativity can grow from multiple perspectives.
